upgrade excluding modules

I have an external module that fails all my upgrade attempts. Is there a way to run an upgrade while excluding the external module from the upgrade?

well without any other information i would say uninstall the module, upgrade your install, then reinstall the custom module, of course always try this on a copy of your server first.

If I'll uninstall the module and reinstall after the upgrade, I'll lose all modules data. Am I wrong?

I have tried to uninstall the module. After upgrading to 5.1.0, there was an error when opening the candidtes tab saying that there's no such table. This error is obvious as I have uninstalled the module with its tables. Now, when I try to upgrade from 5.1.0 to 5.2.0 using the upgrad wizard, I get a blank page after pressing the next button on the first upgrad wizard page. If I try to upgrage using the silent upgrade, I get a message that the upgrade failed (as it was when I did the same procedure without uninstalling the problematic extention module) and the log doesn't say anything.

Can anyone assist?
