    Default Upgrade Help

My Sugar installation just started giving me a upgrade notice:

"rning: Please upgrade 6.1.2 : The latest version of SugarCRM is 6.1.2. Please visit support.sugarcrm.com to acquire the latest version."

When I went to go download the new version, a beta version seems to be front and center. In fact, I can't find the 6.1.2 available for download. Which got me thinking, I'm not sure what I'm upgrading from. So I clicked the 'About' link and it says Version 5.5.1. Now, I'm confused, because the upgrade warning JUST showed up a couple weeks ago. How could it go from 5.5.1 to 6.2.0beta in just a couple weeks.

So, in the interest of not losing important data, I'm just wondering if someone can point me to what my upgrade process from here is.

    Thanks for the help

First and foremost, DO NOT upgrade to any Beta releases. Doing so will lock you into the Beta as there won't be a formal way for you to upgrade from it to an actual release version.

Personally, I really dislike that Sugar promotes the use of the Beta in this way as it has the potential of leading many into future problems.

That aside, it is indeed at 6.x. Not knowing how you originally installed, it is hard to say why you have such a big gap.

Anyway, to upgrade to the most current, stable release (6.1.4), use these two files:

    http://www.sugarforge.org/frs/downlo...1-to-6.1.0.zip

    http://www.sugarforge.org/frs/downlo...x-to-6.1.4.zip

You should test the process on a cloned/copied instance of your installation before running the upgrade against your production instance.

Excellent! Thank you very much for the clarification.

Just for my own edification, what are the realistic dangers in this upgrade? I'm running things pretty much completely 'stock'. There's no add ons at all. And, it's only me and one other guy using it. It seems that if I botched it I could just start fresh and restore my old database. Is there something flawed in my thinking there?

People that have created custom modules usually encounter problems. Add-ons are also a danger area, but a moot point in your case.

Note that the database and application files must match. Thus, your backup should include not only the database, but all the program files, so if you need to restore, you would restore both, not just the database.
