Upgrade issue

Hey everyone...
Im having an issue upgrading, I have tried everything posted on these boards.. changing the settings in php.ini increase size and runtime etc. checked permissions.


my server is

debian, php5 mysql, it ran 4.5 fine no issues and I had a couple modules installed, quotes and products and a couple admin tools.

these are the issues I have had

1: click upgrade wizard
2: checks all files "check passes no probs"
3: get to file upload, I upload file "takes me to home page"
4: changed settings in php.ini,
5: File uploads fine "now gives php error "" uw_utils.php line 1287" "FIXED IT removed &"
6: upgrade continues and asks to agree to license terms.
7: upgrade halts on this error
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /opt/sugarcrm/htdocs/sugarcrm/include/utils/array_utils.php on line 197

8**** now I cannot access anything in my sugarcrm, index and all pages return that string error.


any ideas or suggestions I have checked that file and I cannot find errors, Im not the best programmer tho so any help would be good.

I have tried this upgrade 3 times and I always stop with the same error,

Yup just did.. my CRM gives this error now.

Could not connect to server localhost as root.Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/sugarcrm/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock' (13)


and when I attempt to run the silent upgrade i get this:

crm:/opt# php -f silentUpgrade.php /opt/sugarcrm/SugarCE-Upgrade-4.5.1-to-5.1.0.zip /opt/sugarcrm/log.log /opt/sugarcrm/htdocs/sugarcrm admin

and nothing happens. is that what should happen?? also I check the processes and I dont see php running anything.
