Upgrading from 3 to 4.5

Any important if advice if attempting this upgrade?

Back up everything, twice keep one backup on a different machine, check you can restore from your backup. Only take down what's working once the new one is working as well.

Sorry if that's all motherhood and apple pie however I just went through the same process, and could of done with a little more "planning".

I wasn't successful in transfering my 3.51 database to 4.5, however I did a fresh install of 4.5 on a fresh SuSE 10.1 server. When I tried copying the 3.5 version across, code + db, turns out 3.5 is incompatible with php 5.1.
