I doubt there will be an upgrade path from 4.0 beta as it was exactly that -- a beta -- an environment where data structures are likely to change as bugs are ironed out.

But then again, the data you have in 4.0 beta can easily be trashed as no-one would ever use beta software in a production-evironment, right?

Your are correct about the Beta Software However, This doesn't maean that it would be imprudent to set up a beta as if it were production to better understand how your data will be treated by the new feature set.

Though I don't have any data in my 4.0 beta install that's not in my 3. 5.1e install, I do have layout changes for my custom fields and other tweaks that it would be easier to upgrade rather than recreate. I'm simply asking if there is a way to accomplish that.

Well, while it's not quite an upgrade I was able to move rather easily from 4.0 beta to 4.0GA. The process was as follows:

Start by moving your current dataset and creating a new database for Sugar 4.0GA.

Go through the standard install process just as you would with any other install.

Browse to the directory for your previous install.

Go to Migrate Custom Fields and Export those fields.

Then go back to your new 4.0GA install and again go to admin and migrate your custom fields but choose import and upload the file you just exported from the beta.

Once the fields have been migrated go to the appropriate pages and customize your field layout. Check all of your drop downs so that they are identical to those in your 4.0beta version.

Next use phpmyadmin to export the database - DON'T EXPORT THE STRUCTURE - JUST THE DATA. In my case the file size was too large to import it due to limitations in packet size. Rather than change the limits I just dropped to a terminal on my server and used the command line options to import the data.

After that all of my data was imported, my users were returned to the spot they held in the 4.0beta and all passwords were the same as was all of the other data.

I don't expect any problems because the database structure and web files were created by the 4.0GA.

    Good Luck.

unless you are a complete newbie to SUGAR like I am!!!!

Then you start your production in 40BETA cause the developers are so smooth they would never have to traqsh data fileds!!!!!

so can you help me? my company fell in love with SUGAR and now has been using it non stop... why can I do?
