    Unhappy Uploading Contacts

I'm using a business card scanner (CardScan Personal) to generate comma delimted .CSV files that I want to import into Sugat Open Source 4.5.0h

The problem I'm having is that when I try to import more than one contact (in a single .CSV file), where one contact may not use up all fields, and hence have blanks, the contact entry seems to steal information from the next contact.

    Scenario:
Contact 1 uses one address line field, Contact 2 uses two address line fields
Contact 1 has only phone and fax numbers, Contact 2 has phone, cell and fax.
SugarCRM, when uploading these contact will give the second address line from Contact 2 to the second address line for Contact 1. Contact 1 also ends up with the cell number from Cotact 2.

I suspect that SugarCRM has some sort of problem reading blank entry fields properly. I openned the .CSV file in excel and filled in all blank cells with a space " " to see if that would make a difference. It didn't. Contact 1 kept "stealing" from Contact 2 (and so forth). However if I filled in all blank cells with periods ".", such that all cells were used, uploading to SugarCRM worked just fine. All fields remained with their intended contacts.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Unfortunately I can't uplooad the .csv file directly. I've copied and pasted it's contents though into the attached text file.

Unfortunately, you'll need to do some more cleanup of your data.

It looks like it has a number of extraneous characters (looks like carriage returns) at the end of various records, including the first one. If you open the file in Excel you'll notice that the "Other" column on the first record is a multi-line value, which I can easily see throwing off the import process. Notice as well that address1 on that same record has a pipe symbol instead of "11" for the suite number.

Further down, you'll notice that record 6 also has a multi-line value in the Company column.

It is highly unlikely that you could get this to work in its current state.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at cleaning up the data.
