Version 5.1.0a (Build 4837): log4php.properties does not exist ?

Dear all,

I am using Version 5.1.0a (Build 4837) and it seems that log4php.properties does not exist!
Additionally it seems that the logging mechanism that was described in wiki (/wiki/index.php?title=Debugging) is no longer valid for 5.1.
Does anyone have ANY information about how the new logging works ?? I am going crazy...I cannot find it anywhere.
The most strange thing is that you can set a logging level from the admin section but I cannot find the options inside the database (I am looking under config).
Finally I cannot get the system to log anything with $GLOBALS['log'].
For example I am issuing the following from inside /data/Sugarbean:
$GLOBALS['log']->warn('We are inside the save function');
and nothing appears in the log (log level = debug under admin)
