Default What happens when a contact changes account

I have several instances where a contact has changed employment and is now working for a different account. I would like to update their information but then I lose all the historical links to History, Opportunities, etc. that should properly show that contact as working at their previous account at that time.

Ideally, there would be the ability to have date ranges for contacts at specific accounts but since that does not exist, can anyone tell me what they do to manage this. The only option that came to mind was to create a new entry for the contact at their new account.

    Thanks for the assistance.

    Hello Amlan,

A contact can be linked to more than one account. A contact can only have one Primary account, which is the Account Name field on the Contacts edit and detail views. The link to the first account should still exist.

To add the contact to more accounts, you cab add it from Contacts subpanel in the detail view of the account.

As far as having the contact link to notes and opportunities -- are your notes and opportunities only linked to the account? Opportunities by default must be linked to an account, but once saved, you can also link it to a contact in the system via the Contacts Subpanel. If this Opp is linked to the contact here, it should still exist and you should still be able to see it. Notes should also follow the contact if they were linked to the contact

You don't want to recreate the Contact in the system for different accounts. This would create many duplicates and is not ideal. A customization could be done to create and display a date range in the Contacts subpanel of the Account module which would display this date range (similar to the Contact-Opportunity role).
