What PHP version to use with the new SugarCRM 5.0+?

I've have an old version of PHP that needs to be upgraded for SugarCRM 5.0 requirements. With rummors that newer versions of SugarCRM may require PHP 5+, what is the recommended version that the SugarCRM experts recommend? What version is the SugarCRM CE Demo running?
