Default Where did my access to sugarcrm go?

I downloaded the whole 'kit' and successfully installed sugarcrm on my laptop. I was able to import a test file of 106 names and was working on changing various views to suit my particular purposes. As a non-profit group starting a mentoring program I don't need sales, but I do need to track mentors, mentees, and institutions etc that are involved.

All was well last night. I logged in & out several times, and was learning admin tasks via Studio. I have this running on my laptop as a learning tool, but today when I tried to log-in I just saw the message: "Unable to select database: Access denied for user ' '@'localhost' to database 'sugarcrm' " . No problem yesterday, no access today.

Could someone please explain what the problem is. I'm running the latest sugarcrm, with the apache, php, and MySQL versions from the sugarcrm community edition 5.5.0 download package. The laptop runs Win7 and my browser is usually Mozilla 3.5.8, but I get the same result with IE v8.

I looked at the Permissions page (rt click in sugarcrm directory, then properties) to be sure I had all permissions checked.

I have no idea why things changed overnight. Any comment and suggestions gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

It's a database authentication issue. Try launching localhost/phpmyadmin in your browser and navigating to the database .... you may have changed the db authentication credentials .... so you could also check these in your config.php

Apparently you did not restart your computer after you installed Sugar that's why it worked initially. And you did not install mysql and apache as service (which you were asked at some point during the installation).
Assuming that you are using Windows: Go to your start menu, find Sugar, start all options you find there (most likely Apache and mysql) and try it again then.
