where are the users smtp/pop3 settings stored?

They don't seem to be in the database and I can't find them in a disk based config file.

So - where are the user email config details stored i.e auth.smtp.mailserver.com/pop3.mailserver.com and associated passwords - for each user?

Its stored in the user_preferences table

category global if i remember correctly...it is in the contents column
but you must use unserialize it and base64_decode to see the stored table...

Thanks lougaou, you're right, seems like user_preference column in the users table is not used anymore.
