    Default Why not PHP 4.4.0

I am trying to install on this box. I have 3.x running already. I get to the point where it checks versions of PHP and stops me. I wanted to find out why it says it won't run on 4.4.0. Further, if I change in the include/utils.php file to make 4.4.0 an ok version to install on, what will break or not work?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    \frank

I'm not sure of the official reason but v4.4.0 had a huge hole in the security surrounding global variables. It also had alot of complaints about stability on some linux distros.

    Hi,

I;m running PHP 4.4.0-3 on Ubuntu (Debian) I wasn't aware of the problem and it installed fine (though that might be because the system has been upgraded since 3.5).

I've had no problems with it at all. I'd be interested to know of any issues and I'm just off to look at the security issues with it too.

Yes it would, i don't think there were any deal breakers, there were memory curruption issues with some distros and I know they had a problem with the imap section, i'd have to reread the release notes. But why use a release thats more thana year old anyway?

I'm usung ubuntu 5.10 - the default php is php 4.4.0. Even though the replacement version is out, ubuntu should support 5.10 for 18 months. Why they haven't upgraded php in that versin of the distro I've no idea.
