    Default Workflow? (newbie)

    Hi all,

    I recently started in this job and one of the things I've been tasked with is to get SugarCRM (community edition) up and running. So far it's just being used as a basic contact database, but we need to get some other functions up and running. I know absolutely nothing about CRM's, and maybe this is something simple I'm missing

    Basically, when I enter a new contact and assign it to one of our staff, I would like them to get some sort of alert so they know to follow up. Right now it shows up in the dashlet on their home page, but there's no kind of system to prompt them into action.

    Also, I would like the staff member to receive reminders to call leads or other tasks.

    Is this possible in the CE version? Do I need a workflow type plug-in? And, if so, is there a really simple one - the couple I've found sound hard to implement and I don't know what I'm doing here

    Any guidance very much appreciated!

    Hi estrata

    Welcome to team.

    SugarCRM enable some interesting features which would accomplish your request:
    • When you assign some record to some other person (Account, Contact, Opportunity, Call, Meeting etc) SugarCRM send him an email notification, if the User enabled that on his user preference;
    • You can specify a time before scheduled activity to let SugarCRM popup an alert to assigned user.

    I'm having problems with the e-mail notification feature. It is set to send e-mails when a new contact is assigned, but it doesn't actually work. I've tested the outgoing e-mail settings from the administrator account and that works fine - I get the mail in Outlook, which is fine. So I know the mail is setup correctly.....but the notifications just aren't happening. Any ideas?
