Default WYSIWYG Breaks HTML Email Source

Our company recently switched to SugarCRM Open Source -- currently using version 4.5.1e (Build 1049). We have a number of e-mail templates already designed which we are trying to import into Sugar as Email Templates.

The source of these emails includes a DOCTYPE declaration, and a head tag with style data and other information. The emails themselves contain several images, etc.

To import these, we go to Create a new Email Template, click the Source button, and paste the source into the box. However, when we click OK, the source is reformatted (presumably to be compatible with the WYSIWYG). For instance, the DOCTYPE, html, and head tags are stripped out completely, as are the contents of the title tag. Also (a minor annoyance), all of our whitespace formatting (newlines, indentations) is re-done by the WYSIWYG.

Is there any way to prevent, or circumvent, this issue? For instance, to enter HTML source directly and NOT use the WYSIWYG at all?

Please note that the "Source" button does not solve this -- this is what we're doing, but its when we click OK on the Source window that the HTML is reformatted for the WYSIWYG!

    No such luck.
They have code that strips it before it saves and other code that formats it upon retrieval.
    We had the same problem.

So.... does that mean we're just plain outta luck? Thank you for the reply, Joe, but that leaves me thinking maybe we ought we to find another CRM package altogether -- one that allows us to paste in our HTML source and then leaves it be!

I guess I could try to strip out the WYSIWYG component altogether, though not knowing what is involved in that makes it a daunting prospect.

It just seems like the Sugar people should have thought of such a basic requirement!

Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.. especially from someone on the dev team, if they ever post at these forums!

I was just searching through the User Guide for 5.0 Beta 1, and it looks like they MAY have solved this problem in 5.0, by allowing us to switch between the WYSIWYG and plain, HTML-supported text (the latter perhaps even being the default). This would certainly be a positive (read: critical) improvement.. if thats the case we might be able to simply upgrade to 5.0 instead of finding a replacement package.

Can anyone please confirm this is the case -- that SugarCRM Open Source 5.0 now includes the ability to paste in and save my own HTML email templates with no diluting or tag-stripping whatsoever??

    Thank you in advance.

I've just come across the same problem trying to put a form in an email. It's stripping out the first <form tag.
