I have downloaded the 4.5.1f installed fine. Then I ran patch.. noproblems,

Now I could able to login using only Admin account, I created new user, but I could not login using other than the admin.

Is it a limitaion of the OpenSource version or something else..? I tried all posiblities, I have see the same question before in the general topic, but there are no replies...

I really got fedup trying to figure this out, if this does not solve I need to look for some thing else....

I am running on Fedora core 4
with mySQL 4.1.12
php: 5.0
Apache 2.x

You can create non-admin users in the Community Edition (Open Source Edition) of the product.

When I try to login as admin , there is no problem...

Can you try the same steps on our online demo site, located here? Go to the section labeled "build your own online demo", create an instance and log in as an admin, then create the user. Log iout, then log in as that user.

If you can do this in the online environment, then it's something in your environment that's not set up correctly. If you can't do this in the online environment, then it's likely something you're doing in the user setup (I just did this and was able to create a user without any issues on the demo site).

Thank you very much for the link, I am very new to this concept. Finally I found the problem.

Step 1. I followed the link to simulate the problem. I logged in as admin and created a non-admin user. I treid to login using the new userid, I got the same message saying user not available. Then I thought I must be doing something wrong. Finally I found out.

In my understanding the user setting section is misleading the administrator, I was clicking on checkbox for group user, portalonly along with other checkboxes. That is the reason why I was getting the error message not a valid username.

In my opinion, the GUI need to be more precise when taking the option while creating the user OR the error message should be meaningful to say that this user is not allowed to login. Now I understand the user settings after spending almost 2 days on this.

I really appreciate your time to help. I would like to suggest that the GUI need to be tweaked little bit, so that the new sugar users like me will feel much better to understand the flow.
