1
Inspect the email to see if the source is a website that you are familiar with. Some emails from hackers have links associated with them to transfer viruses to your computer. Never click on unknown emails. Spam emails can't be stopped. The people sending them don't include an opt-out link. If the email is from a known source, go to step 2.
2
Open the email for viewing. Note the body of the email and look for an opt-out line. This line should read "Unsubscribe" or "Stop Receiving Emails". Any of these links should allow you to opt-out of the mailing list.
3
Click the link indicated for leaving the list. A new window should appear populated with your email address. Click the button indicating "Unsubscribe" or "Stop Receiving Emails." If the list is legal, you should stop receiving emails in a predetermined time period.
4
Go to the Optoutscreen.com and register. This is the FTC's (Federal Trade Commission) website for opting out of email marketing lists from major marketing/credit corporations. This website will remove your email address (within a few days) from these major lists that contain millions of addresses. Please note that this does not remove you from all email lists nor the lists of spammers.
