Personalize Salutation - Can You Do This?

I am wondering if it is possible (and if possible, how!) to personalize our Email newsletter greeting to mirror the contact/lead name? Example:

Dear [Contact Name],

Please advice, thank you.

Hello zmikko,

All you need to do is create an email template and from the 'Insert variable' dropdown, select Contact/Lead/Prospect and then select the variable you want to display into the template.
