Question Newbie Question - Where to place hosting datawithin SugarCRM

    Hi All,

I am new to Sugar, I have a small web company. I want to store customer's hosting and passwords etc withing Sugar. What would be best practices for this, besides overall site security. Eg where would i put this information. I see many possible places. But would like to hear from the community where to place this.

    Many thanks!

    Good question.

I'd say create a Note attached to the customer Account.

Just go into the Account, click History / Create Note or Attachment, enter "hosting information" as the Subject, and type the info into the Note.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing to solve this.

Maybe a good approach could be use an exteranl tool especialized to store sensitive information.
Then on sugar you could just store a link to related document on this external tool.

Good point Rafael - if the password really is sensitive , then I would recommend NOT storing it in human readable form.

Same thing with credit card number and social security number - do not store.

Let the user have a self-service password reset procedure they can do , to recover/reset their password in case they lose/forget it.

If you want or need admin access to their hosting account, maybe you could allow 2 separate logins - admin login for you that works on their account, and their own login for them. You don't get their password, and they don't get yours either.
