    Question Sugar "Best Practices"

    Hello Everyone,

I am new to Sugar and I have and so far, the package is excelent!

I currently own my own small busess providing IT consulting and services to small buesiness and would like to use Sugar to help me keep track of my actions. My goal is to have all of my info (contacts, projects, tasks, etc) in sugar and then be able to report back items such as work history, hours worked, items that need attention, etc.

In trying to find the best way to input my data, I have came across some questions that i hope someone can assist me with.

    - Is there a way to track time spent on cases?
    - When viewing a project, there is the list of Project Tasks below. When you click "Create", it displays a "short form" to create a task. How can I add fields that are present in the "Full Form" to the "Short Form"? (i.e. Estimated Hours, Total hours, etc)
    - How can i do reporting such as:
    1) Print a summary of every action in a current or old project (all tasks info, meeting info, call info, etc)
    2) Print a summy of time spend on project tasks, projects, calls, meetings, cases, etc

What may be an easier answer to this post if for someone to how me how some of you guys handle your customers in sugar.

    Thanks in advance!

Are you using the OS or Professional version? If you are using the professional version, the reporting module should be able to get you the sumamry data you are looking for on project items and tasks.

As far as adding items to the short form, try the following:

    Go to admin.
    Go to the studio tool
    Click on Edit a Module
    Choose Projects for an example
In the screen that comes up, you should see Edit Layout, click on it.
There will a line that says sub panels, choose project tasks
Click add a column (say yes to the message that chagnes will go unsaved)
Click the plus sign next to add a new column (column will be added to the right)
Press save and publish, you should be back to the subpanel listing with a blank box where the new column was added
Now, click on the column in the left hand panel and drag it to the empty box (sometimes takes one or two tries to get it to drop in) and the item should be added to the short form in that subpaen for that module
