I have used many project management software but I will say Microsoft Project is one of the best. I have been using this project scheduling software and it has proved to be great in helping ease down the process.

MS Project is not the best choice for a lot of teams. The initial cost of purchasing the software is very high, it needs a lot of effort to maintain, etc. Web based tools are generally easier to use and the initial cost is very low, which makes it a good choice for smaller companies and startups. Also some of the full featured tools can have truly great capabilities (e.g. Wrike.com, or others), even when compared with desktop software.

Interesting that you would say that.. I started out using MS Project, but, when I moved companies, they were using a SaaS/Windows Project management software that was more suited for their development process (scrum). The switch hasn't been bad at all, but I still like MS as well.

There are several alternatives to MS Project that you can use and at affordable prices. One of them is RationalPlan. It is even easier to use.

We all have our own choice of preference in terms of project management. It does not always mean that expensive ones are good but it also does not mean that cheaper ones are better.

We use a payware software package called Latitude and it works well as our project management software. It has helped us manage our clients, projects and documents. It's easier for us to track reports and timesheets.
