    Default Project Tasks Question

    I have a question concerning the behavior of the project management module.

    1. It seems to me that "project tasks" are basically meant to be used as "project phases" if you will, under which the various tasks related to a phase can be listed. I notice that if I enter a task under a project phase. Can the "project phase" appear on someones task list, or only the tasks under it? I am not even saying i want the project phase to appear on someones task list, I am just trying to understand the overall arhictecture.

    2. When I open a project there is a space below where activities are shown. When I click on a project phase ("project task") I also see a place for a list of activities related to that phase. Is there no place I can go to see ALL the of the projects phases and activities together? Or at a minimum all of the activities? For instance what if I just wanted to go to a project and see all of the open activities without drilling down into every phase? Is that possible?

    Thank You

    You should not use normal Tasks from Activities in projects at all.

    Project Tasks can have parent tasks so the Project Tasks are hierarchical and represent the entire project plan if you may. You can thus create top level project tasks for your phases if you will with sub tasks within them with further sub tasks within them etc..

    Unfortunately there is no default action that can display the entire project plan. I have built one so contact me via e-mail sugarcrm@mjvn.net of you are interested in using it.

    Could you clarify what you are referring to here? I do not know what you are referring to when you say a "normal task from activities"? Do you mean that you do not recommend using tasks on the main project page but rather inserting them under "project tasks" (i.e "parent tasks or whatever you want to call them)?

    Yes, as I thought, but again, can top level tasks/phases show up on someones individual task list? Or do only tasks below the top level tasks show up on individual task lists?

    Yes - I mean do not use Tasks, use Project Tasks. There is a seperate subpanel for Project Tasks and they are saved/managed seperately with hierarchy.

    They show up on an individual's "My Project Tasks" dashlet, on the "Project Tasks" subpanel in the project and on the "Project Tasks" listview when you select "Project Tasks" from the Project menu.
    On th Project Tasks listview you can also select "only me" to see all of your Project Tasks across all projects.

    Much better for project management than Tasks module.

    Hello Marnus,

    Since you seem to be quite well versed with the project tasks, can I ask you a question.

    There is a bug in the project tasks dashlet (Version 5.2.0a (Build 5447) wherein a project task assigned does not automatically show in the assigned person's homepage. It behaved correctly in Version 4.5.1e (Build 1049) (from which we upgraded to the 5.2 version). On search the forums I found out that it happens because there is no value assigned by default when a user creates a project task.

    So, i went back and checked in the old version and i found that even if a user didn't assign any value to the % completed, the system by default put a 0, and that's why it always showed in the hompage dashlet.

    Now, my question is, has this bug been fixed. Is there any patch available. Or is there any workaround available.

    You advice will be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Chhanda

    Default Project Tasks Question

    Hello,

    I'm new on this community and i have a question about the project module.

    At this moment you have to create new tasks, with every new project you create. But i would like to know if it is possible to use the same tasks over and over again everytime i create a new project. So the projectnames change, but the projecttasks won't change.

    For example;

    New project:
    Project 1 --> ProjectTask 1 + ProjectTask 2 + ProjectTask 3 + ProjectTask 4 etc etc.

    New project:
    Project 2 --> ProjectTask 1 + ProjectTask 2 + ProjectTask 3 + ProjectTask 4 etc etc. (the same tasks that i used before in Project 1)

    I hope someone can help me with this one. Maybe it is possible to use some others solution for this?

    Thanks.

    You can use duplicate project feature for this.

    Create a project and assign it yourself. Whenever you want to create a actual project for execution, you could duplicate original project.

    thanks, but that didn't work because when i duplicate a project the projecttasks will not be copied to a new project. then you have to make new projecttasks again.

    but i found the solution in an other topic;

    i downloaded the project module upgrade here
    http://www.sugarforge.org/frs/?group_id=259

    Dup Project52.zip works on the version 5.2e of Sugar CRM CE

    This allows you to duplicate the project along with all the tasks that it contains
