Default Benefits of ISO 9001 - reposted

ISO 9001 is a business strategy and certification program developed by the International Organization for Standardization in 2008. According to the organization's website, ISO 9001 aims to enhance customer satisfaction in a supplier-customer business relationship. The obvious benefit to ISO 9001 certification is the ability to meet customer needs and ensure repeat customers based on a leading training program; however, there are more nuanced benefits that have the potential to make a business more viable and even more profitable.

    Tried and True Performance
According to the ISO, ISO 9001 standards include a systematic approach to managing an organization's processes which consistently yields a product that satisfies customers' expectations. ISO 9001 implementation also includes a protocol which regularly checks the standard's effectiveness; this protocol includes a required audit which verifies that ISO 9001 manages a business's processes effectively. Other protocols include audits conducted by the business's clients and an audit conducted by an independent certification body. ISO claims the latter option is most popular due to the perceived credibility of an independent certification agency.

    Increased Efficiency and Revenue
Though ISO 9001 creates an additional load for the business to carry, The 9000 Store contends that the long-term benefits outweigh the short-term costs. The website 9000 Resource concurs, reporting that once a business achieves 9001 certification, its processes are defined, in operation, streamlined and therefore achieves efficiency by cutting down training time. Streamlining operations, according to 9000 resource, leads to improved productivity, which in turn increases revenue.

    Increased Morale
According to the 9000 Resource, streamlined and efficient production also enhances employee morale and responsibility by creating tangible and categorical job functions. As a part of ISO 9001, a company develops definable roles and responsibilities for workers, accountability of management, training procedures and a well-defined picture of the individual's impact on the company.

    Fewer Production Errors
ISO 9001 decreases the number of production errors by streamlining processes and documenting all changes to and occurrences within the production apparatus. Even the smallest change must be documented to ensure maximum efficiency. ISO 9001 also requires traceable records of these sorts of actions, which aims to increase employee liability and therefore minimize negative changes to apparati which could result in production errors.

    Improved Supplier and Consumer Relations
According to 9000 Resource, ISO 9001 standards improve a company's relations with its suppliers because the standard's documentation requirements tracks flaws in the process which would determine whether a raw material or a production process was at fault for a mistake; documentation requirements also account for where every raw material is sourced. Both of these actions require a company go through due diligence before accusing a supplier of providing sub-par materials and therefore fosters long and friendly relationships with companies that provide the best materials.

A firm's clientele will feel confident about continuing to do business with an ISO 9001-certified company, according to 9000 Resource, because the universally accepted accreditation standard stands for efficiency, consistency and dedicated quality service---and therefore ensuring customer satisfaction, which is the primary goal of ISO 9001.
