We're small high tech manufacturing company of 5 people, our Sugar OS should go production in a week or 2, we're very happy of what we've seen so far.
Part of our evaluation has been how to integrate sugar into our existing work processes. What has been bugging me is a "missing link" : Between "opportunity close win" and order delivery. Its a pity since Sugar should easily become "the" home page of all our staff.
I just need 2 things:
ORDER MANAGEMENT: track order status
PROCUREMENT: track purchasing and sourcing status
I look at it this way: on top of the "Customer" Relation Management, sugar just need to add "Supplier" Relation Management, etc... The functionality for any "relation management" is actually the same (task, phone, email, meeting...), its already there ! That's your core business !
I'd be very happy with very simple modules, simple fields, manual key in entry... for a start, do not attempt anything complex, do not attempt to replace the accounting system - it will be complicated, and not really your core expertise... I'd even say if you duplicate and adapt slightly the existing opportunity and project modules - you might be able to launch it by end this year !?
Go Sugar Go !!

One approach that you could do yourself is to adapt the Cases module to do Order Management and the Bugs module to Procurement. Remove the existing fields that you don't need and add custom fields relevant to your business. Then, either get your reports directly out of the database, with Excel / ODBC, with a custom reports module (we made a simple one that might work for you) or with Jasper Reports (very nice once you get to a certain point on the learning curve).
If you intend to use Cases and Bugs for their intended purposes, you could copy them to make custom modules for Orders and Procurement. This is more involved but certainly do-able for a good programmer who understands the OOP of SugarCRM.
Let me know if you need help.

We are in the process of adapting the existing quote and product module to create contract pricing for our B to B customers so a user can go into the sugar quote module and create a quote for an account then the customer can login into Joomla and see there quotes and place an order based ont he quote. The fun part is that I have to intergrate an external app that provides the catalog and order processing/management. Of course the app is in Java tooI will let everyone know how it goes. I guess the only I owuld like to see from Sugar is information that would help intergration like more information about how Sugar uses SOAP or some atomated method in the admin studio where I could create data exchange links between Sugar and external apps.

CYBERAUTHORIZE is a leading national merchant processor. As an added value we recommend SugarCRM to our clients. Currently, we have our clients add a link to the portal module so they can process credit card, debit card and electronic check transactions from within SugarCRM. However, our client base would like to see the following Order Management capabilities in SugarCRM:
Sales Quotation Processing - provide the ability for SugarCRM to process a specific "sales quotation" and link the sale to an account (e.g. add a history record).
Products - add an "order now" button to the product module so a user can quickly process a sale. All sales should be linked to an account.
Real-time Payment Gateway Integration - integrate SugardCRM (e.g. direct https links) into the top real-time payment gateways (e.g. Authorize.Net, Plugn'Pay, iTransact, and Skipjack). Since Authorize.Net, iTransact and PlugnPay process credit cards and electronic checks the user should have the ability to accept multiple payment options.
SugarCRM should not store the clients credit card or checking account information since that could result in identity theft or other opporunities for fraud.
Other requirements
- all transactions must be over a secure connection (SSL). The real-time gateways we list above provide an SSL connection
- enable payment within SugarCRM on mobile devices (e.g. Palm, Blackberry, PocketPC)
- Enhance your sales reporting to include method of payment
- enable recurring billing features for an account (e.g. credit card or check)
- enable a "batch" process for processing multiple account payments

Im looking at QuoteWerks http://www.quotewerks.com. There is integration from this project into SalesForce... I dont think the sort of quotation modules people are talking about are ever likely to be man enough for my organisation. we have complex products in multipe currencies. We need a tree like structure to navigate these and need to be ablet o navigate fast when on the phone. unless there was somoe serious AJAX work i dont feel this will ever work in a browser...
Does anyone from Sugar have any contact with Quotewerks, are there any intention to encourage integration?

Ive just come across:
http://kreotek.com/products/phpbms/
They look to have a pretty descent Product management/ quotation setup built on LAMP...
Anyone recon it might be a fit for integration with Sugar??
Rich
I’ve installed a phpBMS on my servers and its pretty sweet.. the AJAX implementation makes browsing products and making up quotes online workable...
I thoroughly recommend people take a look...
Just went back to V-t-i-g-e-r and its release candidate has come on leaps and bounds... especially the quotation module... its use of Ajax is very sweet...
Yes, I just left Sugar for ...... as well because of quote and order management. IT is still buggy but functional enough, especially with the full feature quote, products and invoicing facility. It is only a small step then to integrate with Quickbooks, or some other accounting app. I wish the Sugar developers would include the quoting and order management modules in the OS. They would be able to finally achieve a better open source program than .......
