We use SugarCRM in an 'Opportunity centric' way - that is our sales staff work a list of opportunities that are pre-created for them, sending emails, calling leads, etc. from that list. Their goal is to progress the opportunities aggressively through the pipeline advancing through the sales stage, or retiring the opportunity.
In order to share data between sales staff, we store all history of communications, emails, etc. against the opportunity. 5.5.1 appears to solve many of our issues in regards to email history and making it quicker and easier to send emails that are associated with data from the opportunity. The addition of a 'To' button in the compose email screen that filters the email addresses of parties associated only with the Opportunity is a blessing! Big thanks to whoever added that. It makes a big difference for us.
However if I wish to enter a History note against the Opportunity, but I want to identify the Contact that its associated with, I have a problem. The contact finder that comes up when selecting the contact isn't filtering to Contacts only associated with the Account for the Opportunity. Basically its not filtering anything at all, meaning that my sales staff have to select a contact from a list of 50,000+ records, which is not only error prone, but time consuming. Since they are entering it from the Opportunity screen anyway, like when composing an email it should be able to know associated Contacts from the Account that the Opportunity is for, and automatically filter the list down to that.
This simple change in behavior will make a major difference to the data quality for all history data captured against Opportunities and flow that data forward to the Accounts & contacts. Please consider changing the behavior of contact selection to be more 'in context' with the use of the find feature.
Thanks
Myles
