The ability to chat with employees
The ability to chat with employees
Just out of curiosity, don't you have phones for that? And wouldn't it be easier to use a phone or speak to the person in person?Originally Posted by appsupport

Actually I would take it further and have a chat module to chat with customers. This can be very useful on the support side.
Definitely a great idea. There is an open source chat product called Jabber (http://www.jabber.org/). I think integrating SugarCRM with Jabber would be a great project for one of our open source community developers to tackle.
Any takers?

Yes, I think it will be a great tool. Currently we are using live support software like crafty syntax.Originally Posted by clint
if this could be incorporated to SugarCRM, it will definitely be nice.

Crafty syntax is a great open source Help Desk and Customer Support staff tool in the sense that allow staff members to chat simultaneously with many customers, send FAQ itens, cobrowsing and etc.
Jabber is a great replacement for unsecure open services like MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM and ICQ that salespeople love to use. Jabber uses IETF's supported XMPP protocol and have more than 10 million users worldwide, not including the new Google Talk (also based on jabber) users. Another plus for jabber from the productivity standpoint : it can run behind a companyś firewall , thus not allowing employees talk to people other than the business related contacts .
As of the comparison with phone, chat and person-to-person contacts, they all fit in given situations. Chatting is great to talk to many people in different locations (even continents) simultaneously at a cost that phone and live contacts can not match.

May be we could have a simple functionality of sending private messages to other employees instead of relying on third party packages. In the PhpBB forum package, there is an feature to send private messages. SugarCRM could just utilize that feature.

Six years later !
Chat is everywhere! Facebook, Google Gtalk, MSN, Yahoo, Skype,
SMS text message conversations on smartphones (iphone, android, ) even looks like instant messenger chats.
Makes you wonder...
What is the status of this feature request to integrate chat into SugarCRM ?
1) Chat between users (sales and marketing reps) of the Sugar app, and employees who may not be users logging into the Sugar app (like SF "Chatter")?
2) Log and save all Sugar user/employee chats, by setting the relationship with the User's and/or Employee's records?
3) Chat between reps and customers/vendors, for Support cases (B2B or B2C)?
4) Log and save all chats between Sugar users and customers/vendors, by setting the relationship with the customer's Account, Contact, and Lead records, and the Sugar user(s) in on the chat?
