create users who can input data but cannot edit

Please I need help customizing user roles. i would like to create a user role where a user can make an entry, but cannot edit entries. How can i do that?

Hi javadoc

The Roles module does not allow that customization.
You need to customize the controller.php / view.edit.php instead.

Let us know if you would like to know how to do that.

Clint Oram has indicated that this will be included in SugarCrm 5.5.

This thread was based on SugarCrm 5.0.0e but we have an internal module that is 5.1.0b compatible that does just this and if you put the code lines in the correct places it works fine for 5.1.0b

I was doing some updates on our internal module and did a quick SVN diff and extracted the parts that were relevant to this create right (since this is a manual extraction from a much larger customization done to SugarBean.php and some other files I might have missed something, so do not be surprised if it does not work.)

I have attached it as in installable module here.

PLEASE NOTE: There are not warranty, guaranties ... you know the rest. Test it thoroughly before bringing it anywhere near a production system.
