    Talking google Calendar

Has anyone given thought to integrating Google Calendar into Sugar? I don't see an API yet, but there is a simple way to prefill the 'add event' screen.

I have a test version on my website that adds a Google Calendar button to the top of the DetailView and when you click it, the Google Calendar 'Add Event' screen comes up pre-populated for you. Then you select a reminder option or two then click 'ADD'. I should even be able to add in the 'invite other people' options later on today.

Attached are example screens. I just want to make sure noone else is working on this and that there is interest. I have had minimal luck modifying the built in calendar and my users hate it. This may be a quick and easy answer that can be expanded once there is an API for Google Calendar.

BTW, I know the time and date is wrong, I haven't worked out how to get UTC from the bean.

Wouldn't it be easier to publish the SugarCRM calendar, using the module somebody wrote to provide it in iCal format, then subscribe the Google Calendar to that? Just an idea.

Maybe it would be at this point, but in th end I am looking for a way to replace the SugarCRM calendar, which I hope to do once the Google Calendar API is released. Once the API is released then I won't need the button anymore. I could probably find a way to eliminate the button right now, now that I think about it.

I'm not sure if others are having the same problems I am having with the built in calendar but I get
    1. No reminders, ever, version 3.5.0 to version 4.2. I have not seen a reminder in ages.
    2. Some tasks don't make it on the calendar or they appear then disappear some time later.
    3. the whole multi day thing.
Anyway in the end I would like to use google mail and google calendar natively as both the incoming mail and the calendar that are built in to SugarCRM just don't meet my needs.

That level of integration would be truley appreciated. I've had similar problems with the calandaring function and would love a better implementation, however, we're all still using paper desktop calendars (please keep chuckles to yourself :-).

Yeah, most of our new salesmen are used to a much more dynamic and feature rich calendar, and the built in one is a bit underwelming. But everyone here loves the google calendar and I figured why reinvent the wheel. The API should be out shortly and then it should be possible to impelment, although I am worried about 2 way communication and duplicates.... but I'll figure that out when the API comes out. In the mean time a button at the top is stopping my phone from ringing.

Have you had any more luck with this? Seems the API is pulished and I'd be very interested in any additional work that's been done.

    Thanks -

Question Re: google Calendar integration into Sugar... PLEASE HELP!

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one who loves the google.

Has anyone had luck integrating the google calendar?
The sugar isn't terrible, but my whole team is already on google, and i'd hope to put the resources we use and love in one location as much as possible....

So... any advise on how to do this best would be GREATLY appreciated. j

    Cheers,
    Mandaline

I'd be curious how far anyone has gotten with this. I'm looking at migrating from our home-grown web apps to Sugar and have some developer time that I can lend to this. We don't like Sugar's calendar (especially the muliple entries for each hour that an event is ongoing), and would like to elegantly integrate Google calendar into the Sugar interface.

I think what needs to be done here is IMPROVE the iCal module on the Sugar CRM component, i a way a re-invention in itself but none the less one that would be needed if we are to survive CRM and Cal management (And not using Google for everything!).

Someday this week I will create something to show what I am talking about either a project case or integration proposal. At the moment I have too much on my plate but I do see the use of iCal; as a Mac user, yes I do. Its the only sane thing I know that works!

So for any meetings that are planned for me or my team, its important that i see it. It would also help to know that reminders are working by using the native reminder on my iCal client once the calendars are in sync.

I am sure we all noticed that the sync component is in the Professional versions. But ALL i see there is MS Outlook no mention of iCal so I would have to wait till we get our products installed and then I can explore more.
