    Default PHP Editor Tools

After finally switching off of Zend 5.5 this month I am wondering what all of you are using as a development environment.

I still really like Zend but it has alot of display issues and I just can't seem to get used to Eclipse so after evaluating several packages I settled on Netbeans. It won over Aptana by a bit, netbeans is fairly similar to Zend in look and feel and Aptana locked up a few times on my machine and I couldn't figure out how to open files in it (it opened them in GEdit for some reason instead of opening them in Aptana from Aptanas own file browser). I look at over a dozen editors (DreamWeaver, Bluefish, Vim, Eclipse and others) and Netbeans just came out ahead. It was stable (none of Zend's weirdness) and I loved the highlighting options as well as the Smarty plugin.

Let me know what you use and why, I'm still open to switching.

    Hi Ken,

Good topic. I have not put much research into this, so I just do what I need to to get by.

Right now I use vi/vim and I recently installed Bluefish, but have not yet used it much. These are all on the server itself. On my client, I also have freeware called HTML-Kit that I have used for several years. It does OK. I don't know enough about what's possible to recommend for or against.

I look forward to the responses on this thread as I would love to enhance my development environment.

    Phil

I might be giving eclipse another look as the debgging in netbeans seems a bit difficult. I use bluefish as my quick and dirty editor when I just need to modify a few files but not a whole project. I used to run notepad++ under wine but bluefish uses less memory.

I suggest to add Codelobster PHP Edition into the survey.

Another that was not on the list is PHPStorm which is where I ended up.
