Default Problem in configuring Outbound Email Settings

    Hi,
I was trying to configure Outbound Email Settings to use Gmail SMTP server but was not able to do it .
These are the settings that I have given.

    Outbound Email Settings

    Mail transfer agent = SMTP
    SMTP Server * = smtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Port * = 465
    Use SMTP Authentication? yes
    SMTP Username * *****@gmail.com
    SMTP Password * ********

I think the the problem is with 'ssl' .Gmail uses ssl and there is no option to enable ssl .

    Please help

    Thanks ,
    Prabhanjan

I'm in the same boat as you and need assistance.

Were you able to fix it?

This thread might have already been dealt with in another location, but here is an answer that I have found

At the bottom of the Inbound Email Settings, there should be a box saying 'Show Advanced'. After clicking on this, there is an option displayed to use SSL.

    Hope that this helps

I think the problem is that SugarCRM Email client is currently not supporting TLS encrypted SMTP authentication. I'm using Evolution email client on my laptop and having no problems sending mail through GMAIL's SMTP servers as long as I uses TLS. When I encountered the problem in Sugar, I tried changing SMTP aut to SSL in my Evolution client, and as I expected, it did not work. So I concluded in my non-scientific test that SugarCRM email client do not support TLS encrypted SMTP authentication and that I along with all others that uses GMAIL will not be able to take full advantage of "the sugar" at the moment.
My hop is that SugarCRM will address this problem as son as possible.

    Hi All,
I just tried for SMTP using GMAIL and it works fine. You MUST check the check box "Use SSL when connecting" when you create an outgoing mail server for GMAIL otherwise it will not work.

If you look at the datatype of 'mail_smtpauth_req' its tinyint. If you run the MySQL dataabse in the strict mode then you will get this error. You can google it and you will see several people have reported issue with tinyint.

    Thanks

    Samir,

What version were you using when you tested SMTP with Gmail?

Be sure that extension=php_openssl.dll is enabled in your php.ini file. If you are on windows, you must restart iis
