Howdy Sugar Addicts!

Your friendly neighborhood IT/OnDemand team here. In anticipation of the undoubtedly voracious demand for the 4.5 release, your dutiful and dedicated sysadmins have been hard at work. Charged with the task of satisfying the collective sweet tooth of the insatiable Sugar community, we here at Sugar Central have deployed a new Content Delivery Network (CDN) service for sugarforge.org. Utilizing industry leader Akamai, this deployment represents our ongoing commitment to expand the global reach of the project to open source developers globally.

Currently, all downloads from sugarforge.org are being delivered through this CDN service. What does this mean to your average Sugar addict? Over 25,000 fileservers around the world delivering your upgrade patches, modules, releases, and ISOs at warp speed. From Shanghai to San Francisco, sugarforge.org downloads will be served by edge servers with geographical proximity to every Internet user on the planet.

This implementation is completely invisible to the user. No special keys, input, or domain names are required, simply click Downloads and enjoy the increased flow.

Preliminary testing has demonstrated ~650k per sec sustained downloads from consumer/SMB broadband and well over a meg per second for larger T1/DS3 pipes. Additionally, download speeds remain high with concurrent downloads allowing for all the CRM sweetness you can handle.

We'd love to hear feedback on this newly deployed service as we begin to deploy to sugarcrm.com, SugarExchange, and all our other web properties. Screenshots of scorching download speeds, record times on the Forge's largest downloads, and/or any difficulty using this service would all be helpful, especially from users in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Enjoy a speedy 4.5beta2!

Best,

Rob
