    Default Bug-Forum cross-reference

So, we're thinking about a way to automatically create a bug from within a forum entry, and to have the bug # appear as a new post (maybe).

The bug number will be formatted in such a way to make it easily searchable in the forums (e.g., BUGxxxx).

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

how about improving the current bug tracker? Frankly it sucks. allow it to do searches on just a keyword. currently it requires something inane like version, status, resolution or some other qualifier to be selected before it will run a query, thus requiring about 5-8 searches to try to search most of the database for a particular topic. It's damn slow too. Also make it possible to see ALL bugs at once, regardless of version/etc., and make them sortable by the various categories/topics/fields.

Ok, EdSawyer. We'll tee up a refresh of the Bug Tracker but it'll likely be towards wintertime that we can get to it. Frankly, we haven't heard many complaints about it. It's pretty fundamental, for sure, but it gets the job done.

Just open up the query restrictions if that is all you have time for, that would help a lot. I shouldn't have to do 5-8 searches to find all bugs on a particular topic! And it's NOT getting the job done now, that's the whole point. Look to some better software in the longer term. Something like Eventum, or RT.

yeah, I bitch a lot but we pay well into the 5-figures for our licenses (per year) so I have earned the right to bitch. ;-) And constantly having to fix problems in this code doesn't help things.

I agree with EdSawyer. Maybe it is also a good idea to make the Bug Tracker more visible. For example by creating a link/tab in the Forum. I find my way to the forum by using Google, because I find it hard to find from the Sugar pages. (unless I overlooked something)

The discussions regarding a bug, and the current bug status should be accessible from one 'view'. At the moment this is not possible either from the forum or the bug tracker.

    I guess you mean http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/sugarbugs.html

Bookmarks are personal, and do not help other people to find the bug tracker, which was my - somewhat hidden - point here. (And I do have the bookmark btw, but google just takes me there faster.)
