Default CAPTCHA now implmented for posts

    Hi all -

In our ongoing efforts to reduce spammers in these forums, we have implemented CAPTCHA before you can post a new thread or reply to a thread. That's the small graphic at the bottom of the new post page that requires you to enter in the six character code prior to posting.

We hope this significantly helps to reduce spam in these forums.

Ironically, I killed another spam post not 30 minutes after we changed the site... and I killed another spammer this morning.

I guess there's no way to completely bulletproof a site. We'll just keep vigilent watch and squash the posts when we see them.

Yes, I agree, but I think only driven by the endless SPAM servers we will get the first machine which ( or should I say who ) will pass the Turing test by its SPAM recognizing capabilities and whom we can call humanlike artificial intelligence.
So SPAM could be supposed to be the real motor of technology....
    Isn't it?

I accidentally posted this in the Developer thread:

I think the spam is actually worse today with the Captcha...odd as that may be. How does this Captcha work? Does it pull from an external website? If so, I wonder if web crawlers are picking up that this site uses a Captcha now which can tell spammers of potential places to do their business.

    Thoughts?

We will continue to monitor this closely. Our goal is to reduce the spam to as close to zero as possible.

I'm noticing the same number of spammers. Yesterday was an exception. That 29-post slimeball was way out of the norm; usually they'll stick around for 1 or 2 posts because of the 2 minute wait we put in between posts. Makes it almost harder to find 'em sprinkled between the legitimate posts but we do!

Looks like we are having another 29er today...
Captcha is nice, but not so useful against human spammers.
    I hate them

Did you see the TV report about little internet cafes in some very active countries with tenths of programmers sitting in dark backrooms and programming spam machines?

I want to have such machines for a good module test environment....
but they do net sell them I think. :-)
