I'd recommend just editing your post with the solution.
Just tack onto the bottom:
Edit: Found how to do it, just had to <insert brief note here>.
That way, other people who might encounter the same problem can learn from what you did and hopefully not have to struggle with it with no information available.
Allowing threads to be deleted could get a bit messy, especially as someone might have a reply in progress right as you punch delete.
