    Default Online CRM

    Hi folks,

What will be the pros and cons of CRM on demand?
    http://www.salesforce.com/products/

Can SugarCRM be run as online CRM? Are there other online CRM other than Salesforce CRM/CRM on demand?

Opinion and comment would be appreciated.

Yes, there are several others. The proper fit will depend on your particular needs and budget.

Some that come to mind are sagecrm.com, MSCRM and Highrise.

HighRise *looks* nice....while cosmetics make things look attractive, I am not really sure I'd recommend it to anyone that is interested in using it for anyone other than themselves. Personally, I think there is a bit too much focus on making it look pretty vs. practical.

    Quick example...

When you log items (history) against a contact, the mechanism functions similar to how a blog comments system works. It *looks* nice, but it isn't practical over time. What if I want to find a history entry from 2 months ago (given a scenario where an item is being added every 2 - 3 days on the contact). Not very useful in that scenario. I am assuming you can search, but you can search in any other product as well. I fail to see the advantage in that case.

There is a list view for it, but seems to not always be accessible. A bit weird.

    Anyway..

You are also limited in your customizations. This, I think, is the biggest problem with it for environments beyond single users.

Anyway, to be fair, I haven't spent an extreme amount of time looking at it, but these are some of the glaring items that come to my mind.

There are other areas which are pretty cool, such as the way it handles e-mail to task scheduling and the calendaring/scheduling is comparable to Sugar.

    My 2 cents...

I liked the look and feel of HighRise but since I can't get under the hood and customize for *my* specific needs, I passed. Sure, its nice looking, easy, no installation required, no maintenance, great for ppl who have zero programming background or no help from those of us who do and need something a little better than outlook or omg.. <cringe>lotus notes</cringe>. I think its beautiful that it's web based app and give it my emotional support in that regard, but its no replacement for what I can do with sugarCRM

    My 2 cents

    Ditto.

The guys that made it have a web design background, so it makes sense they'd want it to look nice, but I think they took it too far and sacrificed important functionality in exchange.

But, that doesn't make it a bad product in any way. I think it is good for individuals, but not much else beyond that unless you are willing to live with having a CRM system you can't modify.

Its simplicity actually kind of reminds me a bit of an old product called Janna Contact.
