Is it possible to setup products in different currencies on SugarExchange? There doesn't seem to be any way to change the default US$ currency for a product.

Hi valcas, USD ($) is the only supported currency so far as I can see now. I'll have a word with our team to see if this can be changed.

Ok valcas, we've done some digging. The tools we use allow for multiple currencies and provides for currency conversions. BUT thee are some restrictions in the current implementation that I believe need to be solved in order to provide a complete solution for you.
Here's what is possible:
** You can specify the "base price" in USD when you establish the product in Buy Now Admin (currently, only USD is allowed here)
** The price that appears in the "Get it!" tab displays the USD value and, immedaitely adjacent to it, the price in Euros.
** The conversion rate (USD -> Euros) is established by us on a periodic basis using a super-admin function.
This will likely accommodate your requirements as your buyers will "see" Euros.
But there is a significant limitation remaining: The tool we use allows only one such conversion, like USD -> Euro. USD -> Yen would not be possible simultaneously.
Question to you and others: Can you get by with specifying USD (as is the case today ... no conversion)? We'll obviously resolve this in the SugarExchange Phase2 refresh which we plan to deliver in the September timeframe.
Thanks,
Andy

Thanks for checking it out for us Andy,
Unfortunately, the inability to list our products in Euros does represent a considerable problem for us as we wouldn't want to be at the mercy of currency fluctuations. We could change the prices of the products as the currencies vary but this would be very offputting for users who might see different prices every time they came back to check out the products.
It's a pity, but I think we would have to wait until Euros became available as a base currency for products before listing them for sale on sugarexchange. I would like to have the 'buy now' link displayed but to link this to a purchase on our own website for now. Do you think this might be a possible temporary resolution?
Val
Ok valcas, two topics.
First, yes, we will shortly be providing a way to click-thru to external web sites such as yours. This will be available as early as next week. We're considering charging a nominal fee for this ability -- details soon.
Second, in regard to currencies, is this an appropriate direction: In the Buy Now product setup area you establish a base currency, say Euros. Thus a widget you sell is either 10 Euros, or 10 USD, or 10 Yen, or 10 whatever. This amount and associated currency is displayed on the "Get It!" page and subsequent pages through the checkout process.
A side effect of this that multiple items purchased by the customer must all be the same currency.
Thoughts on this? And thanks for your help.
Andy

Hi Andy,
In relation to the click thru, will the charge only be for linking from the 'buy now' link?
Re the currencies, setting up products with a base currency in this manner is exactly what we would need. If the customer is buying multiple products from the same suppliier then I can't see a problem. If the customer is purchasing products from multiple suppliers all using different base currencies then I can see that there might be a problem for you having to list 'shopping cart' items grouped by their base currencies. This could be confusing to customers but then again I can't really see people going on a 'shopping spree' and filling their shopping basket with items in this way.
Having setup the SugarExchange products, this currency issue seems to be the only thing preventing us from actually selling on SugarExchange. The rest of the functionality seems to be very well thought out and well implemented.
Thanks
Val
Hi valcas, thanks again for the feedback.
We'll soon have pricing detail regarding the click-thrus. But this will be a nominal fee as we want to encourage this type of activity as well.
I'll keep you up-to-date on the currency issue as well.
Andy
